I wander'd lonely as a cloud

That floats on high o'er vales and hills,

When all at once I saw a crowd,

A host, of golden daffodils;

Beside the lake, beneath the trees,

And twinkle on the Milky Way ,

They stretch'd in never-ending line

Along the margin of a bay:

Ten thousand saw I at a glance,

Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced, but they

Out-did the sparkling waves in glee：

A poet could not but be gay,

In such a jocund company:

I gazed — and gazed — but little thought

What wealth the show to me had brought?

For oft , when on my couch I lie

In vacant or in pensive mood,

They flash upon that inward eye

Which is the bliss of solitude ;

And then my heart with pleasure fills,

威廉·华兹华斯(1770—1850)，英国著名的湖畔派诗人。作品极多，有与柯尔律治合写的《抒情歌谣集》(Lurical Ballads ，1798)，有最重要的长诗《漫游》(The Excursion ，1814)，《露西》(Lucy ，1799)，《杜鹃颂》(To the Cuckoo ，1804—1847)，优秀十四行诗《威尼斯共和国灭亡有感》(1802—1807)等，还有他死后出版的自传体长诗《序曲》(The Prelude ，1850)，他开创了英语诗歌的新风格，为英诗注入了新的气息。

华兹华斯出生于英格兰北部的科克茅斯，他的家庭背景相对富裕，这使得他有机会接受良好的教育。华兹华斯在剑桥大学学习，并在那里结识了柯勒律治，两人共同推动了浪漫主义文学的发展。华兹华斯的诗歌对后世产生了深远的影响，他被认为是英国文学史上最重要的诗人之一。他的作品不仅在文学上具有重要地位，而且对自然、哲学和人类情感的探讨至今仍具有启发性。
